Everything is fine. That is what I kept telling myself. It’s so much easier to ignore that tiny ache or that clicking and popping in your elbow or that thing that bugs you when you are chasing your friends in Gorilla Tag or exploring a new land in VR, until everything powers down. But it got to a point to where my food wasn’t digesting and I didn’t even really feel like eating much anymore. Everything I was consuming was causing discomfort.
I began to record what I was eating and what time, and my activities after a friend had suggested I start there. After one week, I had found a clear pattern. In my mind, I thought I was a pretty healthy person, but my habits weren’t looking so healthy on paper. I really wasn’t getting as much sleep as I should, I definitely was not eating healthy, and I was not getting any exercise beyond mild activities in VR.
At first I was overwhelmed and felt like a failure. But my friend came to the rescue again and gave me the advice “take it one thing at a time. Change one thing a week, and celebrate that accomplishment to make sure it sticks.” So this is where it starts. The first thing I want to check off the list is making sure I get 3 servings of fruit or vegetables a day. My friend said even this is a bit much, but ever since it was announced that Princess Kate Middleton is being treated for cancer, I have really been thinking about how cancerous cells can form any time, and rates for younger people being affected by cancer are on the rise. I’m realizing that every day is a new chance to make healthy choices and get stronger, feel better.
As I learn and grow, I will share favorite recipes and best practices and hopefully inspire you to come with me on this epic journey! I wish you all the best!
